Pretty Girl

Pretty Girl is Bill's dog. Let me give you some background on Pretty Girl. Bill's sister lived in Louisiana when Hurricane Katrina happened. They fled from their house during the storm and at the end of the storm they came back to their house to find Pretty Girl under their house. They searched high and low for her master. They finally find them and they told his sister that they didn't want her anymore. After the storm Bill's sister and her husband moved up to Oregon with their newborn son and 2 dogs, one of them Pretty Girl. The reason why we ended up with Pretty Girl is that when they moved up here they moved into an apartment that they couldn't have a big dog. We stepped in and said that we would keep her. (I believe in 2006)

She became the bad influence dog right away unfortunately. She would run off and not come back to us taking Lucky, my dog, with her. Therefore she became Bill's dog because I didn't like her and Bill loved her. However she has wiggled her way into my life and I have started to like her much more then I used to. She is a wonderful dog when she is in the house or tied up. :)

When she moved up her our Veterinarian tested her for Heart Worm. She tested positive. We have been deciding if we were going to treat her for it. Heart Worm is an actual worm that lives in the heart, hence the name Heart Worm. It gets transfered from dog to dog from a misquito. It lives in the mosquito incubates in them for 24 hours at a certain high temperature, I believe it's in the 80's. Then it goes from dog to dog infecting them all. The reason that we have been deciding on treat Pretty Girl or not is there are not good factors.

Factors to think about -

1. The treatment itself could kill her

2. She has to remain inmobile for a month

3. It's expensive

We found this out back in 2007. Recently we changed vets and talked to her new vet and it was much better news. The only factor that still applies is number one. We found out that she only has to be stillish for about 2 weeks which is a much better idea then a month. The cost has gone down some which is great. Therefore we are going to have her treated at the end of the month. I don't know the complete process so as we go through it I will update everyone. Just pray that she will come through it well.
